Paddy Aubrey News

Jamie Tarses’ legacy will live on. With the support of Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment and the support of the Tarses family, FanFare, the production company founded by the pioneering television producer and executive who passed away a year ago at the age of 56, will continue continues to commemorate her enduring influence on the world. television business.

FanFare will be managed by McCrae Dunlap, who served as Tarses’ chief executive and led the business both while she was in the hospital and after her death in February 2021. With Tarses’ assets and Dunlap is a co-owner, Kapital purchased shares of the new version of FanFare for future initiatives. Kapital will provide logistical support, including office space, overhead, and development funding.

The Wilds on Prime Video and The Mysterious Benedict Society on Disney+ are two current shows produced by FanFare, with the posthumous Tarses listed as executive producer of both. About a dozen projects from Tarses are currently in development at the company, most of them through Sony Pictures TV. These projects include shows for Apple TV+ and TBS. While Dunlap is a producer on the development vehicle, all pre-existing series and ongoing projects are not included in the Kapital deal.

Immediately after Tarses’ fatal heart attack in October 2020, Sony TV, where FanFare has been based for most of its existence, signed a new one-year contract with the company. After that deal expired, Kaplan spoke with Paddy Aubrey, Dunlap and Tarses’ longtime business partner, about continuing FanFare.

Kaplan, a longtime close friend of Tarses, worked behind the scenes on the business. Following Tarses’ injury, Kaplan and Wendi Trilling, with whom TrillTV had a production deal with Kapital, both assisted with FanFare media guides. They worked on many projects, including the HBO Max OK Boomer pilot, without receiving any payment or credit.

According to Kaplan, Jamie is “an important part of television history” because she was the first woman to lead the network’s entertainment division. “She has set the stage for so many to follow her with her enthusiasm for content, connection to the creative process, and dedication to excellence. Our industry pioneers, legends, must be revered and remembered forever. Our dedication to FanFare gives Jamie and her legacy the opportunity to continue to be part of the amazing creative community she loves.

When discussing his future ambitions for FanFare, Dunlap, who had worked there for five and a half years—first as an assistant to Tarses and then as her chief executive officer—had repeat that attitude.
