Trinidad and Tobago – In a devastating accident on the Point Fortin Highway, Ottis Roach and Kerlan Sutherland lost their lives in a head-on collision, leaving two others severely injured. The tragic incident occurred just hours before a segment of the Solomon Hochoy Highway extension to Pt Fortin was officially opened.
Reports suggest that the collision took place around midnight in the La Brea area, involving two vehicles. Tragically, Ottis Roach and an unidentified woman, later identified as Kerlan Sutherland, lost their lives in the impact, while two others were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Ottis Roach, a hardworking individual and a beloved friend, brother, son, uncle, and colleague, was driving a silver-grey Nissan B-15 during the collision. Kerlan Sutherland, 39, a resident of Parry Lands in Guapo, was a front-seat passenger in Roach’s vehicle.
The collision occurred when their vehicle collided head-on with a black Mitsubishi Lancer driven by Keeghan Baptiste of Mon Desir Road in South Oropouche. The vehicles collided in the vicinity of the #8 Road exit, resulting in the tragic loss of lives and severe injuries to others involved.
Emergency responders, including fire officers and police, swiftly arrived at the scene to assist. Autopsies are expected to shed light on the exact details of the tragedy in the coming week.
