Omarion Williams arrested as he accused of killing ‘Aaron Metts’ in downtown Belleville

A 19-year-old man, identified as Omarion D. Williams from East St. Louis, has been charged with first-degree murder in connection to a fatal shooting that occurred over the weekend in Belleville, Illinois. The victim, Aaron Metts, aged 27, was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering multiple gunshot wounds at the intersection of North 1st and West B streets.

Belleville Police responded swiftly to reports of gunshots, reaching the location around noon on Saturday, October 7. Officers discovered the victim and initiated an investigation. Following leads, they swiftly identified a person of interest residing nearby and collaborated with the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office to secure search warrants.

The Belleville/St. Clair Regional Special Response Team conducted a search at the residence, resulting in the arrest of Omarion D. Williams. Williams will remain in custody at the St. Clair County Jail pending a detention hearing.

The tragic incident took place just two blocks away from the popular Belleville Chili Cook-off, held at the Belleville Public Square. However, law enforcement has clarified that the shooting is unrelated to the event and did not pose a threat to the attendees.
