Noel Hanna’s career
Noel is a climber from County Down’s Dromara. He is the creator of the Spartan Race. His 10 climbs to the top of Everest have all been the pinnacle of his career and many have congratulated him on his achievement.
He is a fitness trainer and coach certified by the Northern Ireland Training Institute. In the 1997 Himalayan 100 Mile, he took first place.
He successfully completed the K2 ascent and descent in 2018, becoming the first person from the Island of Ireland to do so. He was even included in the Guinness Book of Records. In 2021, he conquered Everest for the tenth time.
Noel Hanna died
On April 17, 2023, Noel reached the height of 8091 meters of Annapurna Peak in Western Nepal, but he died the next night at Camp IV after returning from the summit. According to climbing authorities, a climber died as they were descending from the top of the tenth highest peak in the world.
Hanna is said to have climbed the highest peaks on all seven continents and Mount Everest ten times during her illustrious climbing career, according to CBS News. He completed a summit of Everest in 2006 by cycling for two weeks from base camp to the east coast of India. He was the first Irishman, according to the BBC, to successfully climb and descend K2, the second highest mountain in the world, in 2018.
However, Annapurna is considered particularly dangerous because of its avalanche-prone terrain. Successful climber Baljeet Kaur, 28, needed to be rescued from the summit on Tuesday after falling ill while descending, according to The Guardian.
Anurag Maloo, another climber, slipped into a crevice on Monday and remains missing. Hanna’s sister, Irene Hunter, said in an interview with BBC News NI’s Evening Extra that her brother “loves the landscape and he just loves people.”
