The request to initiate a canonization application for Abad was approved by the CBCP at the 126th plenary assembly, which took place from 8 July to 10 July. At the biennial plenary session in Kalibo, Aklan, the Catholic bishops of the Philippines met, and Bishop Renato Mayugba of Laoag submitted the cause for canonization for all of them.

Abad, who was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy at the age of 10, is known for keeping his faith despite his condition.

CBCP News reported that Abad was “deeply devoted to the Eucharist and spent his life distributing rosaries, Bibles, prayer books, holy pictures and other religious items.” She usually wears white clothes and wears a rosary around her neck.

Bishop Mayugba remarked that it was unusual for a young girl to carry out missionary activities at the time.

He said, “Nia’s life was one of fervent reverence, worship, and closeness to God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, and the Virgin Mary.

According to Mayugba, 13-year-old Ilocano can be “a good model of piety and courage” for young people.

She was baptized on March 15, 1980 at the Church of Santo Domingo after being born on October 31, 1979 at Capitol Medical Center in Quezon City. According to CBCP News, Abad was born in Sarrat to a lawyer couple, but her father passed away when she was just three years old.

According to CBCP News, Abad was born and raised in Quezon City, with her only sister Mary Anne.

She attended the University of the Philippines Center for Child Studies in Diliman, Quezon City, for kindergarten, then the Holy Angels Montessori School in the same city for kindergarten through second grade.

According to Pajarillaga, a witness to their lives in Quezon City, Abad’s mother, affectionately known as “Abad Attorney” in their parish, “was a fervent devotee of Divine Mercy, a woman of few words but full of charity.”

According to CBCP News, Abad’s family moved to Sarrat in April 1988 after her mother “became chief hearing officer of the Department of Justice’s Land Affairs Committee.”

She completed her freshman year of high school at Mariano Marcos State University Laboratory High School in Laoag, Ilocos Norte, after graduating top of her class at Mariano Marcos State University Laboratory Elementary School. In June 1993, after her mother’s ministry underwent another change, the family returned to Quezon City. At the School of the Holy Spirit in Quezon City, she continued her education.

On August 16, 1993, while at school, she suffered a heart attack. She was taken to the hospital but passed away.
