Nik West Wikipedia, Husband, Wedding Dress, Prince, Song, Net Worth, Song, Net Worth, Youtube – It’s interesting to see successful women playing musical instruments in a male dominated field position. Nik West, a singer and electric bassist who has previously collaborated with iconic music icon Prince, is one such example.

The Arizona native started playing rhythm guitar at the age of 13, and after hearing Michael Jackson’s Wanna Be Started Something in high school, he fell in love with the bass. She has collaborated with well-known figures in the field such as Dave Stewart of Eurythmics and John Mayer. She is known for her contagious enthusiasm and exceptional approach. Steven Tyler of Aerosmith even supported him, saying, “Holy Funkadelic, I felt this girl’s vibe the first time I met her.

We spoke with West, a bassist, about her musical influences, meeting Prince for the first time and his only piece of advice that has stayed with her to this day before the session. Her performance at the Singapore International Jazz Festival will take place tomorrow.

How will your show at SingJazz go?

Lots of energy and funk. I really enjoy engaging the audience and ensuring their enjoyment. Prince gave me a lot of DVDs with remakes of his classic music videos. I have been inspired by them since I watch them a lot. As a result, Prince’s performance has greatly influenced what I do, as well as the way I play and perform. Those who haven’t seen Prince perform live are sure to have a great time.

How were you introduced to Prince, with whom you worked closely?

He discovered me on YouTube. He has been trying to contact me for a year, but no one has my phone number. One day, Prince asked during a rehearsal, “Does anyone know how to contact Nik West?” John Blackwell, his drummer, did.

Prince contacted me that evening and invited me to come hang out with him the next day. I was stunned; in fact, I didn’t even want to go because I was too scared. I don’t think I’m talented enough right now because I feel it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity. I feel like I need to practice more because Prince is still out of my reach. As soon as I entered the set, he forced me to overcome my fear.

What is it like to work with legends?

Prince is excellent. He showed me how to act out of the ordinary. He simply wanted me to be authentic rather than trying to fit in with other people. Take inspiration from others, he advises, but be unique. Validated. That’s the only thing I took away from dealing with him. He merely encouraged me to be honest. He allows me to be myself – crazy.

Whose music do you still listen to?

Tina Turner, Larry Graham and David Bowie. Sting and Paul McCartney, no doubt. My record company was the first to see me and they said, “Oh my gosh, a woman playing bass and leading the band, that’s really never happened before in the pop world.” Except for Paul McCartney and Sting, no one is really famous for that. And I added, “Since it’s done, it can be done again.” So in my opinion these two musicians will be the main musical influences for me.

What music are you listening to right now?

This is kind of weird because, despite the fact that I play music, I don’t really listen to it. However, a lot of what Bruno Mars is producing is pretty good for me. It’s extremely modern but at the same time classic, which is really special. Albums by Emily’s D+Evolution and Esperanza Spalding. I really like her music because it is fusion and avant-garde yet accessible to the masses. And no, I’m not just saying that because we’re close.
