MONSTA X has revealed the tracklist for their highly anticipated comeback with their 12th mini album REASON on December 20, 2022. According to the social media promotion, REASON will feature six tracks, including the title single Beautiful Liar. Daydream, Crescendo, LONE RANGER, Deny and It’s Okay are among the b-sides (rough translation.) The new album will be released on January 9, 2023, marking the band’s comeback after a 9-month hiatus. SHAPE OF LOVE, their most recent album, was released in April 2022.
REASON is the group’s first album after their contract was renewed, with the exception of rapper IM, who left his agency Starship Entertainment in August 2022. Despite being an active part of the group, the rapper signed an exclusive deal with Sony Music Korea for his solo efforts. This is also the group’s third release without leader Shownu, who enlisted in the army in July 2021 and is scheduled to release in April 2023.

With the self-produced track for REASON, MONSTA X will relive the 8-year journey.
The next album Explanation from Starship Entertainment will reflect the band’s eight-year journey since their 2015 debut and explore the obvious reasons for their presence today. According to the label, the title single Beautiful Liar will include an infectious track combined with the group’s powerful vocals and performances to portray the story of love discovered in the most extreme and dangerous relationship.
Beautiful Liar and other tunes are, according to the watchlist poster, self-produced by the band. Main rapper Joohoney, who is known for his songwriting skills, wrote the lyrics for 5 of the 6 songs on the new album. On Twitter, MONBEBE (monsta X’s fan) praised the announcement of the watchlist. They were especially drawn to the title tune, which was written by the maknae line of Joohoney, Hyungwon, and IM. Moreover, since the song has the same name as Shakira and Beyoncé’s 2006 hit, it has fans going wild.

Many of the members’ solo projects were announced during the 8 months MONSTA X did not release new music. Kihyun, the group’s lead singer, made his solo debut in October 2022 with YOUTH, a 5-track mini album.
Joohoney, the main rapper, will make his debut in the Netflix series Lost in America. In the movie scheduled for release at the end of 2023, the male idol will play the role of a K-pop idol who is fluent in English. Meanwhile, Hyungwon was cast as an idol in Sajangdol Mart, a 2023 web drama starring EXO Xiumin. In this episode, he will play the role of Jo Yi Joon, a great rapper.
