On Thursday night’s broadcast of Saturday Night Live, the cast of Molly Kearney spoke on stage and made a humorous and passionate statement about the recent assaults of transgender children in the United States. By appearing alongside Michael Che and Colin Jost in the show’s “Weekend Updates” section, Molly, the first non-binary member of SNL who uses the pronoun surname/last, steals the show.
Since the start of the year, more than 400 anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been introduced across the country, Michael Che noted in introducing Molly. ACLU estimates 461 bills in all. Later, Molly Kearney makes a spectacular and hilarious appearance by falling from the ceiling while supported by a harness.
After going down, Molly joked about how the harness had ‘reinforced’ their torch area and how they had been ‘hanging on my genitals for so long and I was starting to feel like an angry Republican legislator.” Michael Che then mentioned that at least 14 states passed laws restricting the delivery of sexist childcare just this week.
