Milwaukee Police Officer James Nowak tragically died in car crash

Oak Creek, WI – Milwaukee Police Officer James Nowak, 30, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, after an off-duty accident in Oak Creek. With nearly a decade of service under his belt, Nowak’s off-duty car collided with a semi-truck as it made a U-turn ahead of him.

The collision was harrowing, with Nowak’s car slamming into the side of the truck, narrowly avoiding going under it. As the sole passenger in his vehicle, Nowak sustained serious injuries, necessitating urgent medical attention. He was swiftly transported to Froedtert Hospital, where reports indicate he is in grave condition within the intensive care unit.

Milwaukee Police Department shared James Nowak’s death news on Facebook, stating, “The Milwaukee Police Department mourns the loss of Officer James Nowak who honorably served the Milwaukee community and our department for over 12 years. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and our members who are immensely suffering from this tragedy.”

The semi-truck driver and passenger emerged unscathed from the accident, cooperating fully with authorities. This unfortunate incident compounds the challenges Nowak has faced within the police force, having been the former partner of Heroic Officer Peter Jerving, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty in February 2023.
