The Edmonton community is mourning the loss of a beloved leader, Mike Boychuk, who tragically passed away on September 1, 2023, due to a heart attack while riding his bike in Invermere, British Columbia. Mike’s death has left a void in the hearts of the Oak Hills Community League, family, and friends, as they remember a man whose dedication and commitment made him a pillar of their community.
Mike Boychuk was not just a community leader; he was a true embodiment of what it means to be a “community builder.” His boundless energy and infectious enthusiasm had a magnetic effect, bringing people together and fostering a sense of unity among diverse individuals.
In addition to his community involvement, Mike was an avid sports enthusiast, finding joy in various athletic pursuits. His love for sports extended to activities such as downhill skiing, road riding, mountain biking, fat biking, trail running, hiking, golf, and water sports. Nature held a special place in his heart, and he often found solace and inspiration in the mountains, river valleys, and oceans.
Mike was also a devoted family man, dedicating his time to accompany his children, Brooklyn and Blake, to numerous sporting events, from hockey games to soccer matches. One of the cherished memories shared by his loved ones is the spirited hockey games where Mike would provide insightful commentary, creating memorable moments with his family.
Professionally, Mike had a successful career in environmental civil engineering. His attention to detail and passion for his work were evident in his involvement in various land development projects over the years. He co-founded Intentional Land Developments and later joined David Schaeffer Engineering in Toronto after his retirement.
A memorial ceremony will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023, at 4:00 pm Mountain Standard Time, at Southside Memorial Chapel, located at 8310 104 St NW. The service will also be streamed live online for those who wish to participate and remember the remarkable life of Mike Boychuk.
