Michael Haley began his professional career on May 19, 2008, when he signed a two-way contract with the New York Islanders. Haley then signed a two-year contract with the Islanders’ rivals, the New York Rangers, as a free agent on July 1, 2012. He spent two seasons with the organization. He signed a one-year, two-way free agency contract with the San Jose Sharks on July 10, 2014.
In his third season with the Sharks, he played a full first season in the NHL in 2016-17, scoring 2 goals, 10 assists and 12 points in 58 games while leading the way. Sharks took a 128-minute penalty. Haley left the Sharks as a free agent on July 1, 2017 and signed a two-year, $1.65 million contract with the Florida Panthers.
