Mgen Roy Galido Biography, Wikipedia, Wiki, Class – Major General (MGen) Roy Galido is a retired Philippine Army officer who served as the Commander of the Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom) from 2017 to 2020. He is a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 1987.

Galido was born in Iloilo City, Philippines, on April 8, 1965. He graduated from the PMA with a degree in Military Science. After graduating from the PMA, Galido was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Philippine Army. He has held a variety of command and staff positions throughout his career, including:
- Commander, 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion
- Commander, 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade
- Chief of Staff, 1st Infantry Division
- Director, Joint Task Force Zamboanga
- Commander, WestMinCom
Galido is a recipient of the Distinguished Service Star, the Silver Star, and the Bronze Cross Medal. He is also a recipient of the Philippine Army’s Distinguished Service Medal.
Galido retired from the Philippine Army on September 2, 2020. He is currently the President of the Philippine Military Academy Alumni Association (PMAAA) – Western Mindanao Chapter.
Here are some of the notable achievements of MGen Roy Galido:
- He led the 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion in the successful rescue of the kidnapped victims of the 2010 Zamboanga City crisis.
- He led the 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade in the successful defeat of the Abu Sayyaf Group in the Basilan campaign.
- He led the Joint Task Force Zamboanga in the successful restoration of peace and order in Zamboanga City.
- He led the WestMinCom in the successful implementation of the government’s peace process in Mindanao.
MGen Roy Galido is a decorated soldier who has made significant contributions to the Philippine Army and to the peace and security of Mindanao. He is a role model for young officers and a credit to the Philippine Military Academy.
The Philippine Army’s next commanding general is Roy Galido
The Department of National Defense has announced that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has nominated Lt. Gen. Roy M. Galido as the new commanding general of the Philippine Army.
Galido graduated from the Philippine Military Academy in 1990, according to the DND.
He oversaw the Philippine Armed Forces’ Western Mindanao Command as well as the 6th Infantry Division.
“His extensive experience and well-honed skills resulted in the significant victories of his command against lawless elements, especially in Mindanao,” the DND stated.
“With Lt. Gen. Galido at the helm, the Philippine Army will undoubtedly and excellently pursue the strategic path set by the commander-in-chief in pursuit of the country’s stability amid the changing security landscape,” it continued.
