‘Melissa Kaltveit’ Como Park Senior High School students dies in fatal car accident

In a devastating incident that unfolded at a St. Paul intersection, a 40-year-old woman lost her life, and several others sustained injuries in a fatal car accident. The victim has been identified as Melissa Kaltveit, a resident of St. Paul, Minnesota. The tragic incident occurred on Thursday around 3:10 p.m. in the Como Park neighborhood.

Reports indicate that Melissa Kaltveit was driving her sedan east on Orange Avenue when her vehicle collided with a sport-utility vehicle driven by a 16-year-old male, heading north on Maywood Street. Both vehicles sustained significant damage in the collision.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers found Melissa Kaltveit and an 18-year-old passenger in her vehicle unconscious. Despite the efforts of paramedics, Melissa Kaltveit was pronounced dead at the scene. Her 18-year-old son, a student at Como Park Senior High School, was injured and transported to Regions Hospital. Fortunately, his injuries were deemed non-life-threatening as of Friday morning, according to Sgt. Mike Ernster, a St. Paul police spokesman.

The occupants of the other vehicle, the 16-year-old driver, and his passenger, also 16, were evaluated by paramedics but did not require hospitalization. All three individuals involved in the accident, including the two teens in one vehicle and the 18-year-old in Kaltveit’s car, were students at Como High School.

The accident site, located approximately four-tenths of a mile from Como Park Senior High School, raised concerns due to its proximity to the school and the timing of the incident, coinciding with the school day’s end at 3 p.m.

As the community mourns the loss of Melissa Kaltveit, the St. Paul police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident. At this time, the family has not made any announcements regarding the obituary and funeral arrangements for Melissa Kaltveit.
