In 2019, he returned to Hawaii to play for Kaimuki High School, where he threw for 3,317 yards and 41 touchdowns. Jayden moved back to Las Vegas for his final year of high school and enrolled at Liberty High School.

He led the team to the state championship, throwing for 2,027 yards and 24 touchdowns. Maiava was named to the all-league first team during his stint with Liberty. The teenager revealed his commitment to UNLV in 2021. Because of the coaching staff, the player selected UNLV over Auburn, Louisville, and Tennessee. He said that the coaching staff and his parents kept checking on him. Marcus Arroyo, the head coach at UNLV, was involved in the recruiting process, phoning Maiava and giving him a scholarship.
