Matthew Kreiss Obituary, College Station Texas based project engineer succumbs to fentanyl overdose

Matthew Kreiss, a dedicated Senior Project Engineer at Cadence McShane Construction and a proud Texas A&M University graduate, has tragically passed away. Matthew, lovingly known as Matt, lost his life on Sunday after battling the aftermath of a fentanyl overdose incident in Beaumont’s north end.

The heartbreaking incident unfolded after Matt, who had recently celebrated his marriage to his longtime partner Moira Kreiss, was found unresponsive alongside three other males. Regrettably, one of the individuals was pronounced dead at the scene, while Matt and another male were rushed to an area hospital in critical condition.

Described by many as a cheerful man who cherished life, Matt’s untimely demise has left the Lockhart, Texas community and beyond in shock. Law enforcement agencies suspect fentanyl may have played a role in the overdoses.

On Wednesday night, late in the evening, three men, including Matt, reportedly overdosed in the north part of Beaumont. Police responded to a residence in the 2300 block of Tyler St after 11:30 p.m., finding the unresponsive men already under medical attention. Despite life-saving efforts, Matt and another individual were in critical condition, emphasizing the severity of the situation.

A preliminary investigation by narcotics officers and detectives suggests that the men may have ingested counterfeit pills laced with fentanyl, leading to their incapacitation. Authorities have issued a warning, emphasizing the lethal nature of counterfeit pills containing even minimal amounts of fentanyl. These pills, often resembling prescription painkillers, pose a serious threat to public health.

The devastating news has prompted an outpouring of condolences and prayers from the community, including messages of support shared by the PHS Class of 1987 on Facebook. Matt’s passing is a profound loss, and the circumstances surrounding it highlight the dangers associated with counterfeit medications and substance abuse.
