Marianne Lumb News

On this week’s BBC show Great British Menu, a professional chef from Leicestershire will show off his culinary skills. One of four chefs competing to represent Central England is Marianne Lumb, from Long Clawson, near Melton Mowbray.

After a four-year absence, Marianne will return to the Great British Menu kitchen. She previously entered series 13 and went straight to the final round of the competition, but she insists she is more motivated than ever to claim the crown this time around.

Paddington Bear’s 65th birthday in 2023 was the inspiration for this year’s Great British Menu, which celebrates the country’s achievements in animation and illustration. At a party held at Brighton’s Royal Cinema, chefs from across the UK, divided into eight geographical regions or countries, competed to cook a meal.

The famous palace, which Raymond Briggs has immortalized in his favorite story “The Snowman,” is also the first site of the Brighton School of Art, England’s oldest art school. Chefs have been tasked with creating delicious dishes that celebrate illustrations and animation. Dishes served included a Soup Dragon appetizer that pays tribute to classic stop-motion animation The Clangers and a delicious venison wellington alligator for a main course that recreates Quentin Blake’s edible crocodile illustration. for Roald Dahl’s 1979 cookbook.

This week’s shows, starting tonight, Tuesday, March 21, focus on chefs from Central England. Before one of the four chefs is fired, the other three will prepare their appetizers and fish dishes.

Before another is removed, the three surviving chefs will cook their main courses and desserts on Wednesdays. On Thursday, the chef representing Central England in the final will be announced. Chef Andi Oliver is hosting the show, while the judges are chef Tom Kerridge, restaurateur Nisha Katona, comedian and food enthusiast Ed Gamble.

Marianne, a third-place finisher in the 2009 season of MasterChef: The Professionals, is passionate about wild and uncommon ingredients, such as English truffles and English games. Viewers will be able to see her recreate the Melton Mowbray pork pie in the comedy series Great British Menu, the film inspired by the Magic Roundabout and the popular British animated film Private Eye.
