Marco Pierre White was born on September 11, 1961, in Leeds, England. He was the third child born to English Chef Frank White and Maria-Rosa Gallina. White dropped out of Allerton High School, where he was studying to become a chef without a diploma. He began his training at the Hotel St George in Harrogate, followed by the Box Tree in Ilkley.
In 1981, he moved to London and began his training as a commis with Albert and Michel Roux at Le Gavroche. He trained well-known chefs such as Gordon Ramsey and Shannon Bennett.
