He is the son of Brian and Ottilia Te’o, and he has five siblings: BrieAnne, Tiare, Eden and Maya, as well as Manasseh. He went to Punahou School in Honolulu, Hawaii and played for them. Te’o was named the Honolulu Advertiser’s state best defensive player and Gatorade state player of the year as a child in 2007.
He was named the state’s first team after making 90 tackles and five tackles on defense as well as 400 yards and 10 touches on the back. Te’o helped Punahou win his first state football championship in his senior year in 2008. He was named Sporting News High School’s Athlete in 2008, making he became the first Hawaiian and the first Polynesian athlete to receive this honor .
