Madison Argo, Band director at Wheeler high school, dies ‘unexpectedly’: Obituary

Atlanta, GA – In a sudden and sorrowful turn of events, the Cobb County community mourns the unexpected passing of Madison Argo, the esteemed band director at Wheeler High School. Argo, a vibrant educator and leader, left an indelible mark on the lives of his students and colleagues. The news of his demise, which shook the community, was received on the night of Thursday, September 28, 2023.

Madison Argo, a native of Alexander City, Alabama, was known for his warm and generous demeanor. Having graduated from Benjamin Russell High School, he pursued his Master’s degree at Ball State University, demonstrating a passion for music that led him to serve as the Drum Major for the Auburn University Marching Band during the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

A remarkable musician and a dedicated leader, Argo held the position of President of the Auburn chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi. Even after his graduation, he remained connected to his alma mater, engaging in teaching and participating in alumni band activities. Argo’s excellence in music and education was further recognized during his time at Auburn University, where he stood out as one of the most outstanding students.

Following his educational journey, Argo made substantial contributions to the music industry, notably serving as the drum major of the 380-member Auburn University Band. His musical prowess was further honed through an undergraduate degree in music education and a master’s degree in wind conducting from Ball State University.

After completing his studies, Argo served as the assistant band director at Rowlett High School in Rowlett, Texas, before joining Wheeler High School and the Cobb County School District in July 2022. Argo’s influence extended beyond the school community, as he also contributed to the Macy’s Great American Marching Band, leaving an imprint on the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade for eight seasons.

A GoFundMe page is setup by Wheeler Band Booster Club to raise funds for Madison Argo Funeral Expenses. It is having target to raise $10,000. Page stated:

“The Wheeler Band family is mourning the unexpected passing of our Director of Bands, Madison Argo. In only his second year at Wheeler, Madison was a dedicated leader, bringing with him a passion for music and marching from his years with Auburn University, Whitewater High School, Ball State University, and Rowlett High School. We have organized this fundraising campaign to help his family cover costs associated with his funeral and the other sudden and unexpected expenses required to bring together family from overseas. All proceeds will be directed to his father and sister.

Mr. Argo, Thank you for your dedication to our students. We miss you and hope to make you proud this marching band competition season.”

Madison Argo’s untimely departure has left a void in the Cobb County community, and he will be profoundly missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
