News Luke Murray

If you haven’t paid much attention to Huskies, you’ve probably found yourself wondering about those things over the past few weeks and may have even searched for them on Google.

Over the past few weeks, the popular actor and comedian has been regularly spotted at UConn games, including those during the Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden, in Albany when the Huskies took on Iona and then St. Mary’s, and this past weekend in Las Vegas when UConn beat Arkansas and Gonzaga.

If you’re watching Iona’s match on TV, it’s hard to miss him. TV cameras occasionally caught him, most notably after center Adama Sanogo’s long jump. With only about three minutes to go, the Huskies had an 84-63 lead, and he was seen giggling perhaps in shock. Given that UConn had a two-point lead in the first half, it was confusing.

Murray may be the biggest advocate for a particular assistant coach, Luke Murray, outside of Huskies in general. That’s right, the father of UConn assistant coach is Dr Peter Venkman from Ghostbusters, Phil Connors from Groundhog Day and Pvt—John Winger from Stripes.

After that match against Iona, Luke Murray described his father as “locked up”. After all, he watches every game, so he sends me summaries. He always mentions Andre [Jackson] and Adama when talking about the two boys. Murray, 38, joined the Huskies after working with Louisville for three years and is currently in his second season as an assistant. He worked for Dan Hurley as head coach in Rhode Island and later Wagner.

Bill Murray has been in the limelight for the past two seasons, notably during UConn’s trip to the Bahamas last year. Yet television cameras had to find him to get the attention of viewers at home. Sometimes it happens, but sometimes he can slip by without being observed.

Murray appeared in the stands as coach Hurley approached to cheer and thank the crowd after their win over Arkansas in the Sweet Round of 16. round, Murray asked Hurley to take off his shirt.
