News Lucy Fisher
As the new Whitehall editor of the Financial Times, Lucy Fisher has been selected. Fisher will start working for the FT in May after a year as lead political analyst at Times Radio. Sebastian Payne left the Financial Times in December to become the director of the center-right think tank Onward, and she stepped into his place. Fisher was described by FT editor Roula Khalaf as “one of the sharpest and most intelligent reporters covering UK politics today”.
According to the newspaper, Fisher will “cover the stories behind headlines from Westminster, with a particular focus on the Conservatives and foreign policy” in his new role as Whitehall editor. Additionally, she will co-host the weekly Political Correction podcast and write a monthly column.
“I am thrilled to be joining the FT, a publication I have long loved as a reader,” said Fisher. At such an important time in British politics, I can’t wait to start with this interesting article. I also look forward to working with [political editor] George Parker and the wonderful Westminster reporting team.
Fisher previously held positions as chief political correspondent, then defense editor at The Times, and deputy political editor at The Daily Telegraph before joining Times Radio.
She won the coveted Anthony Howard Award and a $25,000 prize in 2013 when she was 24 years old for a 5,000-word essay on her proposal to consider backbencher congressmen. As a result, she worked for The Times, The Observer and the New Statesman for a whole year.
According to her, “working in the news is the best job in the world,” she said in a 2019 interview with the Press Gazette. She added: “Breaking stories that have real-world impact on policy and change people’s lives for the better is what caught my eye.
