After 17 seasons, Lou Williams, the NBA’s all-time leading reserve scorer and three-time Player of the Year award for the sixth time, announced his retirement from the league on Sunday. The 36-year-old keeper played his last NBA game against the Atlanta Hawks in 2022. He didn’t make it to the league this past season.
Williams, who revealed his pick in a social media video, played 1,123 games with the Philadelphia 76ers, Toronto Raptors, Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers and Hawks between 2005 and 2022, scoring an average 13.9 points, 3.4 assists and 2.2 bounces per game.
Williams set the record for the most points in a league career for a player coming off the bench with 13,396 points in just 122 NBA appearances.
The Sixth Man Award, awarded to the best NBA player who came on from the bench, has gone to him three times. He shares the record of receiving the most honors with Jamal Crawford.
Williams received the Sixth Man title while playing for Toronto in 2014–15 and for the Clippers in 2017–18 and 2018–19.
