The Riverside County coroner’s office identified the victims as Yovani Aguilera Tapia, aged 32, David Losacco, and Millicent Lewis, both aged 29.
The incident occurred when authorities received a distress call on Sunday at 2:48 p.m., reporting a three-vehicle collision on North Gene Autry Trail, between Salvia Road and Via Escuela. Two vehicles traveling north on Gene Autry Trail had slowed down due to blowing sand, but tragically, a third vehicle failed to reduce speed, leading to a rear-end collision.
Regrettably, the driver and two passengers in one of the vehicles suffered fatal injuries. Other individuals involved in the collision sustained minor to moderate injuries and were promptly transported to a nearby hospital. Law enforcement authorities have ruled out drugs or alcohol as contributing factors to the accident.
It’s important to note that a windblown dust advisory remained in effect until 8 a.m. on Wednesday in the Coachella Valley, as reported by the South Coast Air Quality Management District.
