Leslie Van Houten, 73, a follower of Charles Manson, was offered early release by a California appeals court on Tuesday.
After being found guilty in 1971 and again in 1978 of aiding Manson and other cult members in the August murder of a Los Angeles grocery store owner, Leno LaBianca and his wife, Rosemary In 1969, Van Houten was still serving a life sentence.
