News Kris Statlander

As of September 2022, Statlander is unable to play due to an ACL tear. At AEW Double or Nothing 2023, she made an amazing comeback and challenged Jade Cargill to a flash match for the TBS championship. Statlander scored the winning goal and took home the crown. As a result, she defeated Cargill in her first singles match.

Statlander was asked about the timing for her return during the AEW Double or Nothing press conference. She observed that it took a while, as she had expected. The champion explained how returning to the long haul gives her time to mentally prepare and says her great comeback makes it all worth it.

Statlander was a member of AEW’s Best Friends group before his injury. As a member of the stable CHAOS, the team also moved to New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW). Statlander had many chances to win the AEW gold medal but never succeeded. We’ll see if Kris Statlander’s return leads to a title in AEW.

When asked if she’s nervous about going from 0 to 100 by recovering from her injury and winning a championship, Statlander said she’s not making a big deal but is preparing to return. She is adamant that she wants to make her comeback memorable.

Statlander also highlights how she mentally prepares for a comeback. She said her path was easier because she had previously suffered a serious injury. When she first learned of the injury, the champion admitted she was sad but she recovered quickly and is ready to put in the effort needed to achieve her goal.

“Been there before, this time the journey is much simpler. Initially, we assumed there was both an ACL tear and a meniscus tear, but that was just the ACL. That means two days after the surgery, instead of using crutches, I was walking with a leg brace. You won’t be able to do that if you have a meniscus tear. I think my mental development is going a lot more in the right direction. We believe it can be a super-extensive process, but when I have an MRI and know the results, it’s much easier because I’ve been through it before. I remember crying non-stop for three hours after hearing the news.
