Kim Simmonds, famous musician, member of the group Savoy Brown passed away on December 13 after a long battle with cancer. He was 75 years old. Simmonds’ future gigs had to be canceled after he was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer a few months ago. Since last September, he has been on chemotherapy. The band posted a photo of him on social media and stated,
“Kim Simmonds passed away quietly on the evening of December 13 – may he rest in peace.”
The band also said that one of Simmonds’ “last wishes is to thank the Savoy Brown fans.”

Kim Simmonds was diagnosed with a rare type of colon cancer.
Simmonds announced in August 2022 that he had been battling stage four cancer for about a year. He was diagnosed with sign cell colon cancer, a rare disease that affects less than 1% of patients. It is often not detected early enough to allow recovery. He said chemotherapy “made it difficult for me to perform at concerts” and that he also suffered from nerve paralysis in his fingers and hands. He declared:
“Chemotherapy has been a regular part of my life since my first diagnosis and surgery last September. It has allowed me to maintain a respectable standard of living. I am grateful for that, for the excellent local health care I have received, and for the endless support of my wife, family and friends.”

Kim Simmonds was born on December 5, 1947, began his career as a member of Savoy Brown. He founded the band in 1965 and played on a number of occasions. Despite the fact that the roster changed throughout the years, Simmonds, along with Pat DeSalvo and Garnet Grimm, remained in the main roster until his death. Shake Down, Savoy Brown’s debut studio album, was released in 1967 and received critical acclaim from critics and audiences. The band went on to release albums like Getting to the Point, Blue Matter, A Step Farther, Looking In, Hell Train, etc., as well as singles like I’m Tired, Tell Mama and Run to Me.
The group rose to fame with the release of their fifth album, Raw Sienna, in April 1970. The album topped the US Billboard 200 and CAN RPM charts. Hellbound Train, their ninth album, is famous for its hits. The album was released in February 1972 with 8 singles and was well received by the public.
Take the Blues Back Home: Live in America, Savoy Brown’s most recent CD, was released in 2020. Kim Simmonds appeared in the 2008 rock musical American Music: Off the Record, along with a host of other artists and groups. Simmonds has had a solo career alongside his work with Savoy Brown, during which he has published 5 albums. Solitaire, his first solo album, was released in 1997, followed by Blues Like Midnight in 2001. Struck By Lightning in 2004, Out of the Blue in 2008, and Jazzin’ on the Blues in 2015. Kim Simmonds’ wife and family members survived him.
