Kent Tarbutton’s untimely death was announced in a heartfelt Facebook post by Debbie Fancher Matthews on September 3, 2023. Debbie described Kent as her best friend, expressing her deep love and admiration for him: “Kent Tarbutton was absolutely my best friend, and I loved him like a brother. He was the funniest, kindest man I ever met. May you rest in peace, my friend.”

In 2004, the Manor House Estate House was transformed into the Bob Timberlake Inn at Chetola Resort, paying tribute to North Carolina’s renowned artist, Bob Timberlake. The inn not only features eight exquisite rooms but also showcases Bob Timberlake’s designs, furniture, and accessories.
The Bob Timberlake Inn is a testament to the rich history of the estate and honors the tradition of hosting guests with grace and hospitality. Individual rooms at the inn pay homage to former and present Chetola proprietors, as well as local historical figures like Hugh Morton, Moses Cone, and Ben Church.
In 2004, Chetola earned the distinction of being an Orvis Endorsed Fly Fishing Lodge, cementing its reputation as a premier destination for fly fishing enthusiasts. Kent and Rachael meticulously preserved the estate’s historic value while transforming Chetola into one of the Southeast’s most exclusive resorts.
