Katie Britt is an American lawyer, businesswoman, and senator-elect from the state of Alabama. From 2016 to 2018, Britt was chief of staff for Republican Senator Richard Shelby of Alabama, where she began her political career.
Before announcing her candidacy for the Senate in 2021, Britt served as president and CEO of the Alabama Business Council from 2018 to 2021 after leaving the Shelby administration. Britt defeated Democratic rival Will Boyd in his run for the Alabama Senate in the 2022 midterm elections, becoming the state’s first elected female senator.
Since he has retired after 35 years in the Senate, she will take over from her former employer. Unlike Britt, Alabama’s two former female senators are appointed, not elected. Despite a difficult primaries, Britt won the support of former president Donald Trump.
After the first round of primaries, Britt came in first before defeating Republican Representative Mo Brooks. Trump endorsed Brooks before the election, and surveys indicate that Brooks is likely to win the party’s nomination. But as Britt began to win over Brooks in the polls, Trump withdrew his endorsement and began publicly supporting Britt.

As soon as I am elected to the Senate, you will know that I may be the youngest Republican woman ever. Britt said this to her supporters when she was announced the winner. Wesley Britt, former NFL player, and Britt are now married. Both graduated from the University of Alabama and currently live in Montgomery with their two children.
Britt identified herself as a pro-life candidate when she ran for office. According to Fox News Decision, Britt, 40, defeated Boyd in a landslide victory by garnering more than two-thirds of the vote and receiving more than 900,000 votes.
