Kathryn LeBrasseur, affectionately known as ‘Mrs. Alexandria,’ has peacefully passed away at the age of 93, leaving behind a legacy of love, community, and unwavering dedication to senior citizens. Her life and contributions are fondly celebrated as Alexandria mourns the loss of a beloved advocate.
On August 21, Douglas County bid farewell to a remarkable advocate and community icon, Kathryn LeBrasseur, who was affectionately referred to as ‘Mrs. Alexandria.’ Her tireless efforts in supporting aging programs have left an indelible mark on the city, fostering an inclusive and caring environment for senior citizens. Even in her final days, she remained committed to her cause.
The passing of ‘Mrs. Alexandria’ comes after a lifetime of service and dedication to Alexandria’s community. Her influence extended beyond her words, as seen in her final column on August 4, 2023, where she shone a spotlight on the positive contributions of senior citizens. Raised in Alexandria and a graduate of Central High School, LeBrasseur’s journey led her to various corners of the world, yet her heart was steadfastly rooted in the city she cherished.
Her son, James LeBrasseur, revealed that a Celebration of Life ceremony is planned for September 23rd at 10 AM at First Congregational Church in Alexandria. A visitation is scheduled for the day prior at the Anderson Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM. A final hour of visitation will also be held at the church on the day of the service. The Kinkead Cemetery will serve as her resting place, meticulously managed by the Anderson Funeral Home and Crematory.
Kathryn LeBrasseur’s impact on Alexandria was profound and wide-ranging. Her efforts touched churches, senior clubs, schools, hospitals, Girl Scouts, and the Women’s Club. Her dedication led to the establishment of vital services like Meals on Wheels and the Rainbow Rider transportation system in the region.

As James LeBrasseur shared arrangements for his mother’s farewell, the community prepares to honor a legacy of compassion, dedication, and a spirit that truly embodied the essence of Alexandria.
