Grand Rapids, Michigan – The world has lost a compassionate and dedicated advocate for women’s health, Kathleen Buchanan. The co-founder of the Maternal Wellness Program, Buchanan’s passing has left a void in the hearts of those who knew her.

The sad news of Kathleen Buchanan’s demise was shared through a heartfelt Facebook post, where a close friend expressed, “My heart is broken to hear of the passing of Kathleen Buchanan. She was one of the sweetest, kindest, and most caring people I’ve known.” As of this report, the exact cause of her death remains undisclosed.

Throughout her illustrious career, Buchanan immersed herself in the field of obstetrics nursing, accumulating a wealth of experience across various OB departments in Grand Rapids, with the exception of Metro. At the time of her passing, she was serving as a Postpartum staff nurse at Spectrum, in addition to her part-time role at Grand Rapids Women’s Health.

Buchanan’s primary focus revolved around providing unwavering support to postpartum families navigating the challenges of Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMAD) and Perinatal Loss. She actively co-facilitated weekly support groups in both domains, creating a nurturing environment for those in need.

In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Buchanan tirelessly worked to raise awareness about PMAD and its profound effects on families. Notably, she conducted informative “survivor mom” panels for physician groups and local churches, with the aim of enhancing understanding and empathy within the community.

I know she made a difference in my life and so many others. Everyone who knew her. It’s a shock to know she’s gone, but I know she’s in Heaven and I’ll see her again one day. Going to miss her. Sending many prayers to her family.”
