Elgin, TX – The Manor Police Department swiftly apprehended a suspect following a tragic shooting at the Walmart Supercenter on 11923 E US 290 HWY EB in the early hours of Thursday, December 14th, 2023. Responding to a distress call at approximately 3:52 am, Manor Police officers arrived at the scene within minutes to find a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds in the parking lot.
Efforts to save the victim’s life commenced immediately, with officers administering life-saving measures until the arrival of EMS and TCESD-12 Fire services. Despite their efforts, the victim, identified as 19-year-old Luis Frias-Hernandez from Elgin, Texas, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at around 4:13 am.

Following an intensive investigation that spanned the day, detectives identified and arrested the suspect, 25-year-old Juan Acuna-Goana from Manor, Texas. A Travis County judge issued an arrest warrant for 1st Degree Felony Murder. Acuna-Goana was taken into custody without incident by the Manor Police Department and has been transported to Travis County Central Booking.
Details regarding Luis Frias Hernandez’s obituary and funeral arrangements will be released by the family at a later date, as the community mourns the tragic loss of a young life in this heartbreaking incident.
