From her diagnosis, Suleika Jaouad gained a lot of knowledge. She penned a brief story for the newspaper after receiving her initial diagnosis, and readers flocked to it. She currently has a solid reputation as an author and motivational speaker. She frequently contributes to The New York Times’ ‘Life, Interrupted’ column.
She also contributed to numerous other publications, including Women’s Health, Glamour, All Things Considered on NPR, Vogue, and many others. In addition, Suleika released her autobiography, “Between Two Kingdoms,” which achieved New York Times Best Seller status. Jaouad, 35, battled leukemia for the first time in her 20s and had numerous treatments. Despite the successful therapies, she relapsed once again in her early 30s. With her husband Jon Batiste by her side throughout, she underwent a bone marrow transplant and other grueling treatments during her illness.
The best-selling author opened up about her struggle with leukemia in a March 2022 interview with Vogue magazine:
“I, today, am actually doing well. I believe I’m on day plus-32 post-transplant and I’ve been out of the hospital for almost exactly a week.”
Jaouad is currently doing well, however he still frequently goes to the hospital. She received a second bone marrow transplant, which, according to her, was more problematic than the first.
Jaouad also mentioned that she went through some of the worst physical sufferings of her life during the second bone marrow transplant in a prior interview with The New York Times in 2022.
Though she has always had her partner and family by her side, she nevertheless feels “constantly amazed and grateful.” Jaouad also said that she received her first walker at the ripe old age of 33.
