Representative Adam Schiff, D-Calif., tried to claim that Donald Trump Jr. committed a felony during the Trump Tower meeting, but former Special Counsel John Durham cut him off.
The conversation took place during Durham’s Wednesday hearing before the House Judiciary Committee. Before the 2016 election, Trump Jr. met the Russians at Trump Tower, according to Schiff, who asserted that the meeting was illegal.
Do you know, Mr. Durham, that [Robert] The Mueller and Congressional investigations also found that Don Jr. was informed that a Russian official was trying to provide the Trump campaign with “high-level and sensitive information” that would harm Hillary Clinton? Schiff asked.
Durham replied: “Sure, people always get calls from people who claim to have such information. “Really? A foreign country regularly calls a presidential candidate’s son to provide information about their opponent. You mean that? Schiff replied.
“So there are other occasions where the Russian government has provided the son of a presidential candidate with information about the candidate. Is that what you mean? Schiff continued.
After Durham asked Schiff to rephrase the question, Schiff replied: “I am suggesting that people can phone to bring charges all the time. You may have knowledge of that.
Are you really trying to downplay the significance of what happened here and the secret meeting the president’s son held at Trump Tower to get that disastrous information? Squeezed by Schiff.
“I’m not trying to downplay anything, but I think the bigger picture is they’ve met, it’s a farce and they’re not talking about Mrs. Clinton,” Durham said. “I don’t think it’s a wise thing to do,” the speaker said.
Oh, that’s a bad idea. That’s the lowest rating of the year. Do you believe it’s normal for a presidential campaign to secretly meet with a Russian delegation to learn bad things about their opponents, or perhaps just a bad verdict? Schiff asked.
