Jessica Baker obituary: West Kirby student and coach passes away in bus accident

A devastating accident on the M53 motorway in Wirral, UK, has claimed the lives of two individuals, 15-year-old student Jessica Baker and her coach, Stephen Shrimpton. The tragic incident occurred on Friday, September 29, 2023, as a coach carrying students from West Kirby Grammar School met with a fatal accident near junction 5.

The crash, which took place just before 8 o’clock in the morning, resulted in the deaths of Jessica Baker and Stephen Shrimpton, who were pronounced dead at the scene. Tragically, the bus driver also lost their life as a secondary victim in the accident. Merseyside Police reported that a total of 56 people were injured in the incident, with two students sustaining life-threatening injuries. These critically injured students were rushed to the Arrowe Park Children’s Hospital in Alder Hey, while two other victims were taken to Arrowe Park Hospital in Wirral for treatment.

Among the injured, a 14-year-old child is fighting for their life due to the severity of their injuries. Thirteen other victims, after receiving medical attention for relatively mild injuries at a Wallasey emergency training center, were discharged from the facility.

The community is in mourning following the loss of Jessica Baker and Stephen Shrimpton. Condolences are pouring in for their families, friends, and the school community. A GoFundMe page has been set up by Emily Church, following Stephen Shrimpton’s tragic passing. The funds raised will support his bereaved family, including his sister, who is now a widow in her early thirties, and his two young children, aged 8 and 4, who have lost their beloved father.
