Jerry Orr’s legacy is a tapestry woven with diverse experiences and unwavering commitment to his community. Throughout his career, he wore many hats, including roles with the Wyoming Department of Transportation, managing a local hardware store, and owning a Daylight Donut Shop. Notably, his dedication to the art of donut-making was a constant, and he often reiterated, “It is imperative to produce the donuts.”

In addition to his professional pursuits, Jerry served as the Platte County Clerk for an impressive 12-year term and amassed four decades of experience within the insurance industry, working for multiple esteemed companies.

Beyond his professional life, Jerry Orr was a stalwart in the community. He donned the mantle of a Wheatland Volunteer Fireman and lent his support to various organizations, including the Wheatland Jaycees, Wheatland Masonic Lodge #16, Chugwater Masonic Lodge #23, Cheyenne Consistory, and York Rite. His contributions extended to the Grand Lodge of Wyoming, where he held several positions. Notably, Jerry cherished his appointment as a board member for the Platte County Hospital District.

His philanthropic spirit shone brightly through his active participation in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life for 15 years. During this time, he provided unwavering support to Ellie, a cancer survivor, and subsequently, Jerry himself felt the personal anguish caused by this devastating illness.

Stacey Felt shared her sorrow for Jerry Orr. She stated that:

“I just can’t wrap my mind around what is right now. Jerry Orr I remember the first day I met you when I was making a huge change at that time in my life. That was the day you became my landlord. As the time turned into days, months then into years you weren’t just my landlord you became my friend, you always made me feel as part of the family. You were always so giving of yourself so unselfishly for everyone. Your personality was so infectious and so full of life…was surely hard to have a bad day if you were around.”

“I am so grateful that in this life it brought me to meet such a wonderful soul and even more a friend. You made big impressions by just always being you that are unforgettable. I’m going to miss the presense of your smile, that laugh, those jokes, the talks ….the presence of just you!!!! These last 11 years you have shown me the meaning of family and you are one of the best men I have ever met in my life…thank you❤️I love you Jerry❣️”

Jerry’s love for automotive exhibitions was well-known, highlighted by his vibrant 1957 Chevrolet, resplendently colored in yellow. He also had an unfinished 1937 Ford Street Rod, a project Ellie pledged to complete in his memory.

To pay their respects, a visitation period is scheduled from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at Gorman Funeral Homes – Platte Chapel in Wheatland. The funeral ceremony for Jerry G. Orr, aged 72, is set to take place at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, September 15, 2023, at First Christian Church located at 95 19th Street in Wheatland, Wyoming. The service will be officiated by Pastor Casey Schroeder, and Jerry will find his final resting place in the Wheatland Cemetery. Following the interment, a post-funeral meal will be hosted at the First Christian Church, providing an opportunity for the community to come together and remember the remarkable life of Jerry Orr.
