Career

He was the only member of the main cast who was unable to repeat his part (aside from Gary McDonald, whose own character, Andreas “Ethnic” Lewis, was killed off in the film) owing to prior obligations when the film produced a series of the same name in 1988. In 1988, he portrayed Freddie in the ITV thriller The Fear, which was set in the London underworld.
For six episodes of the police drama Between The Lines (1992), he played D.S Eddie Hargreaves. Flynn starred in the ITV series “Soldier Soldier” as Corporal Paddy Garvey of the King’s Fusiliers. The series premiered in 1990. In the series, he co-starred with Robson Green. After Flynn and Green sang Unchained Melody on the show, ITV was swamped with requests to purchase the song, and the couple was convinced to record it and release it as a single, a double A-side with White Cliffs of Dover, by recording Simon Cowell. The single was released in 1995 under the moniker Robson & Jerome and peaked at number one in the UK chart.
In the 1999 film Best, he starred as Bobby Charlton. On stage, he portrayed Tommy Cooper in Jus’ Like That, an homage to the comedy magician written and directed by John Fisher. He was also featured on the TV show So You Think You’re Royal? when it was determined that he is a direct descendant of Oliver Cromwell via his mother, as well as a descendant of Edward I, Edward II, and Edward III of England. Flynn co-stars in four seasons of Ripper Street for the BBC, opposite Matthew Macfadyen. In 2016, he participated in the episode “Shut Up and Dance” of the anthology series Black Mirror.
