The first non-American to travel to the Moon will be Jeremy Roger Hansen of the Canadian Space Agency (CSA). On April 3, 2023, NASA announced Roger as the Artemis II mission expert. Hansen, born in London, Ontario in 1976, holds a bachelor’s degree in space science and a master’s degree in physics. He has three children and is married. Hansen began his career in aviation in 1988 when he enlisted with the 614 Royal Canadian Cavalry Squadron of London, Ontario. Hansen received his Air Cadet glider pilot wings in Trenton, Ontario, in 1992 when he was 16 years old.

Hansen received his private pilot license and wings in Cornwall, Ontario, in 1993 when he was 17 years old. His admission to the Royal Military College of Saint-Jean in Quebec was the result of his training. After finishing basic training in Chilliwack, British Columbia, he began earning his degree at the Royal Military College of Saint-Jean in 1994.

In 1999, Hansen graduated with honors from the Royal Canadian Military College in Ontario with a bachelor’s degree in space science. According to the CSA website, Hansen completed her CF-18 Fighter Pilot Training at the 410th Tactical Combat Operations Training Squadron in 2003.

From 2004 to 2009, Hansen flew CF-18s for the 441st Tactical Fighter Squadron and the 409th Tactical Fighter Squadron. At the 4 Operation Wings, he also held the position of Operations Officer. The effectiveness of NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) operations, deployable exercises, and air operations in the Arctic are among Hansen’s missions there. Hansen was selected for the third Canadian Astronaut Recruitment Campaign in 2009 by the CSA.

After completing the program for astronaut candidates, Hansen began working as a capcom at the mission control center in 2011. Verbal link between Earth and the National Space Station Internationally known as Capcom (ISS).
