Jenn Pellegrino, a former White House correspondent for One America News Network, and Steve Cortes, a former aide to Donald Trump, were selected by Newsmax to co-host the prime time slot.
Cortes & Pellegrino will make its television debut Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET, at the same time as Hannity on Fox News.
Cortes served as a strategist, television spokesman for Trump’s 2020 campaign, as well as a political and financial analyst. Pellegrino worked as a reporter for One America, arguably the most pro-Trump news agency. She has also worked for QVC and Fox News.
According to Newsmax, the show will “confront and address the permanent political class in Washington, big business, and the growing threat of ‘awakened’ radicalism.” Along with Spicer & Co., Greg Kelly Reports, Stinchfield and Rob Schmitt Tonight, Newsmax also air these shows every night.The new show, according to Chris Ruddy, CEO of Newsmax, “completes our nightly lineup and will continue to do so. our unprecedented growth.”
According to Nielsen, Newsmax’s prime time slot averaged 155,000 viewers last Friday, compared with Fox News’ 2.05 million, MSNBC’s 1.82 million and CNN’s 799,000.
“Battle for America” will be one of the segments on Cortes & Pellegrino that aims to highlight “the astonishing stories of ordinary people who overcame the disastrous policies of the ruling class, for example such as open borders, racist theories and censorship.”
Trump asked his supporters to switch from Fox News to Newsmax and OAN after the November election when he made baseless claims about election fraud. As Newsmax focused on post-election challenges, their ratings went up. The AP states that despite the drop after the inauguration, they are still much higher than they were before the election.
Cortes endorsed Trump’s comments about the election. Pellegrino spoke to Trump in February but did not refute his claims that the election was rigged.
