Brad Sykes shared a post on fb on the death of Jeff:

RIP friend and filmmaker Jeff Burr (1963-2023). It’s hard for me to write this – and even harder to underestimate the influence Jeff had on my life and work. I grew up watching his movies like FROM A WHISPER TO A SCREAM and LEATHERFACE: TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 3. He was one of the first people I ever met in L.A. through our mutual friend Kristin Conrad Thatcher- and the first to offer me a paying job, as his assistant on SPOILER in May 1997. That ‘assistant’ job soon blossomed into a full-blown 2nd unit gig, which I performed with DP Viorel Sergovici. From there, Jeff then took me to Romania to work on the Full Moon movie PHANTOM TOWN, where I met my future wife, Josephina. Through Jeff, I met other filmmakers and producers which eventually led to my first ‘pro’ writing and directing gig, SCREAM QUEEN.Typing this now, it’s hard to believe he’s gone. Everyone who knew Jeff, even in some small way, was positively affected by their friendship. He was one of the most open, generous, and supportive people I ever met in Hollywood. He would think of nothing of letting you crash on his couch, or giving you the phone number of an acting legend or producer, or helping your film get considered by a major festival. He was also very underappreciated by the industry. There was a lot more to Jeff than just horror sequels – if you want an example, watch his World War II epic STRAIGHT INTO DARKNESS or his stark expose of the Hollywood underbelly, EDDIE PRESLEY.Jeff was not only a talented filmmaker, but a genuine film fan who was always ready to talk more about other directors’ work than his own. But he had great war stories. Lots of them. And plenty more films he would have loved to make and share with the world.Missing you already, Jeff.
