Jason Thielges Obituary: Davies High School football coach dies at 45 in Fargo

Fargo, North Dakota – The sudden and tragic passing of Jason Thielges, football coach, has left the community of Davies High School and Moorhead High School reeling. Jason Thielges was known for his kind-hearted nature, great football coach at Fargo Davies High School as well as Moorhead High School. He was born on November 23, 1977. He passed away on October 23, 2023 at the age of 45.

Beyond saddened by the news of the sudden passing of Jason Thielges. He knew the challenge of starting a football program from the ground up at Fargo Davies.

Jason Thielges, a Moorhead High School football coach and business teacher at the school’s Career Academy died suddenly, leaving hundreds of student athletes and coaches on both sides of the river saddened and stunned.

Before teaching and coaching in Moorhead, Thielges was the head football coach at Davies High School when their program began in 2009. They even won a state championship in 2014.

When he stepped down from that role in 2019, his good friend and coaching colleague Wayne Werremeyer took over.

Werremeyer said no one worked harder on the field than Thielges. Werremeyer and Thielges worked together closely as coaches and spent even more time together as friends. Werremeyer was Thielges’ assistant coach during the 2014 state title run. Pictures from that day still hang on the wall of Werremeyer’s office.

Jason Owen Thielges, 45, Fargo, N.D., died Monday, Oct. 23, in Fargo.

Visitation will be from 5-7:30 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo. Visitation will continue from 4-5 p.m., followed by a funeral at 5 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 2, at Hope Lutheran Church – South Campus in Fargo. Arrangements by Boulger Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center.
