Jared Lorenzen News
Jared Lorenzen, a former NFL quarterback, died Wednesday at the age of 38 after suffering kidney, heart problems and infections, according to his family.
The family of the former New York Giants backup quarterback announced in a statement Wednesday that it is “deeply saddened to announce the passing of Jared today.” Please remember Jared’s family, especially his children, in your prayers.
Before turning pro, Lorenzen spent four seasons with the Kentucky Wildcats. With 10,354 yards thrown in his career, he holds the Wildcats record. From 2006 to 2007, he was the Giants’ backup quarterback.
A broken leg eventually put an end to Lorenzen’s football career, something he last did with the North Kentucky River Monsters of the Continental Indoor Soccer League.

An earlier statement read: “On Friday, June 28, Jared began playing a bigger, more important game than he’s ever played. For several weeks, Jared was unwell, and that eventually took its toll on him. After being taken to the hospital, he was quickly taken to the intensive care unit.
Jared is dealing with kidney problems, heart problems and infections. His immediate family is supporting him while he fights with all he has.
His family announced earlier this week that his treatment “has worked”.
The family said in a statement to Kentucky Sports Radio on Tuesday: “Jared overnight was fine and that’s a good thing. “He is still on hemodialysis. He stands his ground. Although his medication was effective, his heart and kidney concerns persisted. Jared is still pretty weak, but he’s improving and a fighter. The whole family appreciates your prayers and support.
