Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island – The community mourns the loss of Janna Kowalski, a beloved Health PEI Licensed Practical Nurse, who passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at the age of 39, surrounded by her loving family. The news was shared through a heartfelt Facebook post, expressing the family’s sorrow over Janna’s courageous battle against aggressive brain tumors while being a devoted mother to her two young children.
Born on October 19, 1984, in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Janna was the cherished daughter of Nancy Cameron Riggs (Roger) and David Reid (Corinne). Her educational journey began at the University of Prince Edward Island, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree before pursuing her career as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Calgary. Janna’s adventurous spirit led her to live in various places, including Australia, Korea, and Calgary, before returning to her hometown.
Upon her return, Janna, alongside her husband, Ryan Kowalski, chose Charlottetown as the place to raise their family. Described as the vibrant heart of any gathering, Janna’s warm smile, infectious laughter, and natural ability to put others at ease endeared her to everyone she met.
Janna leaves behind her devoted husband, Ryan, and their daughters, Mia and Liv. She is survived by her mother, Nancy Riggs (Roger), stepmother Corinne Reid, sister Rebecca Gregory (Todd), stepsister Hanna Riggs, mother-in-law Jean Kowalski, sister-in-law Sonya (Frank Suppa), and brothers-in-law Shawn Kowalski and Jason Kowalski (Chantal). She will be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews, Derek, Peyton, Lauryn, Liliana, Melena, Ellery, Lincoln, and Adalyn. Janna’s passing follows the loss of her beloved father in February 2023.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Hennessey Cutcliffe Charlottetown Funeral Home on Thursday, October 26, 2023, from 4-7 pm. A celebration of Janna’s life will take place at the Hennessey Cutcliffe Charlottetown Funeral Home chapel on Friday, October 27, 2023, at 10:30 am, honoring the memory of a remarkable woman whose spirit touched the lives of many. The community joins together in offering condolences and support to the Kowalski family during this difficult time.
