Three years have passed since Melanie Addie was suddenly confronted by police investigators at her front door with two shocking revelations: first, her 23-year-old ex-husband had a fiancee whom he intended to marry; second, the woman had recently been murdered.

In 2021, James Addie, 56, was found guilty of first-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with the passing of Molly Watson, 35. He received a life sentence with no chance of parole plus ten years in prison in July.
According to investigators, James Addie had been dating Watson for seven years and had only two days before his murder become engaged to marry her. She had a single gunshot wound to the back of her head when her body was discovered outside of her automobile on a country road in Monroe County, Missouri, according to the police.
Despite long-standing claims to the contrary, James Addie’s ex-wife indicated she still thinks he is capable of murder. He was a somewhat self-centered individual. James Addie was allegedly snoring close to Melanie Addie when she went to sleep and woke up around two in the morning. She claimed that she got up and moved to the couch like she always does. Melanie Addie claimed to have seen police lights outside about 30 minutes later.
He had always been highly critical of how I should behave as a wife and in general. Then he did this. Is it acceptable that he had a liaison? No. That was it, she declared.
Melanie Addie made the decision to explore the home for any signs of her husband’s extramarital affair. In a lofted storage space in their garage, she claimed to have discovered pictures of James Addie and Watson together taken at Disney World in Florida.
Prosecutors laid forward a scenario during the trial as to why James Addie killed Watson. They clashed about the fact that she had found out it was a lie when he said Melanie Addie was his ex-wife and had perished in a vehicle accident.
