The Westinghouse High School community is in mourning following the untimely death of legendary basketball player Jamarcus Ellis, who tragically lost his life in a car collision with a viaduct pillar on the Lower West Side near Pilsen. The 38-year-old, renowned for his exceptional skills and contributions to the sport, was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital with critical injuries and was later pronounced deceased, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be cherished.

Ellis, affectionately known as “Tone-Tone” in the Chicago area, made a profound impact in the basketball world. Notably, he was an integral part of Westinghouse’s success, leading the team to victory in both city and state championships during his sophomore year. His remarkable talents earned him a spot on the First Team All-State in 2004, alongside notable basketball figures such as current Duke head coach Jon Scheyer and NBA veteran Shaun Livingston.

Beyond his high school achievements, Ellis continued to excel in his basketball career, playing at a junior college before joining Indiana University for the 2007-2008 season. Fondly referred to as “Tom-Tom” by his close friends, he later showcased his skills at Oklahoma City University during his final year of college.
