Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis received a Valentine’s card from her ex-boyfriend, architect Jack Warnecke, during the last months of her life. He told her that the former first lady was often on his mind.
Jackie died of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma on May 19, 1994, at the age of 64, according to a new biography of J. Randy Taraborrelli titled Jackie: Public, Private, Confidential, quoted exclusively in issue this week. The letter is said to have caused a reunion at her apartment a few months before her death.
Jackie fell in love with the architect who created President John F. Kennedy’s memorial site at Arlington National Cemetery three decades ago.
Years later, Warnecke told Taraborrelli about his memories, but with a restriction. Warnecke asked to keep everything a secret until ten years after his death out of loyalty to the famously private Jackie. When he was 91 years old, he passed away in 2010.
