To prevent the spread of COVID and comply with government-imposed social distancing restrictions, Charter Spectrum has decided to temporarily suspend its professional installation service. As a result, they introduced self-installation for people who have just signed up for their service or ordered a device.
Fortunately, you don’t need technical expertise to install and activate your Internet services. It’s so easy, you don’t even need the help of an expert. Of course, when you sign up for the Spectrum network billing service, things are different. a technician will have to go to your place to set everything up if you don’t know how the cable box works.
Let’s show you how self-install works.
Internet Spectrum service settings
When you first sign up for your provider’s Internet services, they ship a self-installation kit. Don’t panic! It comes with all the basics you need to connect to the internet and activate your services.
Self-Installation Kit
Here’s what’s included in the self-installer:
- Coaxial Cable
- Coaxial splitter
- 2 power cables
- Ethernet cable
- Modem
- Handmade
- Wi-Fi conduit

1: Connect Modem
You will need a coax cable and a power cable for this step. perform the following steps:
- Take one end of the coax cable and connect it to the cable outlet. Take the other end and connect it to the other end of the modem.
- Now, take the power cable and connect it to the modem.
- Plug the other end of the modem into the socket
- Wait for the modem to connect
(This will take 2 to 5 minutes)
- When the light on the modem is on continuously, the modem is connected
2: Connect Modem to PC or Wi-Fi Router
for the Internet
- Connect one end of the Ethernet connection to the modem
- Then connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to your PC

Another way to activate your service is to call support and ask them to activate. Once your services are activated, create an account on Spectrum.net to manage your account and devices.
What to do if the installation fails?
This can happen to anyone. In case of failure, check the following:
- Make sure all cables are plugged into the port correctly
- Call your provider to make sure if your service is activated
- Repeat the process again
If the problem persists and you’re sure you followed each step correctly, call customer support. Most likely there is some technical problem or error in the device. You may have to replace the device.
DIY Installation Vs. Professional installation
If you follow the instructions well, you should be able to understand how the self-install works. Calling an expert to install and activate your service will cost you $49.99. It was once but still too much. Wouldn’t it be better to spend this money for a night at a restaurant?
Go the DIY way and save money. Of course, if you think this information is too much, you can always call the supplier and ask if a professional installation service is available.
How to order a Self-Installation Kit?
When you order a new device or subscribe to your provider’s internet service, choose between professional installation and self-installation. When you choose the latter, the company will send the self-installer to your address by mail.
When the kit arrives, make sure you check if something is missing. If something is missing, contact the supplier immediately.
