The process involves using a custom stamp to print your garment tag onto fabric or ribbon paper, then place with an iron and sew on. Here are a few things you’ll need to get started with the stamping process.
1. Stamp material
A flat and plain woven ribbon will work well. But for a nice and clean seal, make sure the ribbon is as smooth as possible. Also, consider a tightly woven ribbon made from natural rubber.
Other options you might consider include hemming from a matching light fabric. This especially happens when you are in a hurry or can’t get the right ribbon. On the other hand, you can use plain weave. Fabrics (such as burlap and shirts) that are light in color and tightly woven are best.
Use pink shears to trim the edges, then create a border by pulling away a few threads. But before stamping, make sure to press the fabric into a nice and smooth form.
2. Stamping material
Stamping materials vary depending on the material’s properties, formability and emulation. So, before choosing a stamping material, always consider any factors that might make the material unsuitable for a particular task. Below are some commonly used stamping materials in the market;

Alphabet kits or stamps that include letters are best, especially for making text clear and consistent on cards. Kits work better because they combine lots of letters and symbols (upper and lowercase) that you can rearrange and stamp multiple times.
Photo stamps and decorations
Besides text stamps, you can get some pretty and lovely stamps from your local craft store. But find the right proportions, small stamps, that fit the width of your ribbon. That way, you can easily add embellishments to the text.
3. Ink pad
Most ink pads cannot work on fabric, although certain types, such as Black Ink Pads, can print on almost any surface, from color and fabric to wood and paper. In addition, a specific ink (such as a large stamp pad) can withstand heavy machine washing with little bleeding or fading.
You can test a stamped piece of fabric in the washing machine and note any possibility of fading. Also, follow the heat setting instructions that came with your particular ink – while some fabric stamping inks may require an iron heat setting, others may not.
4. Ready-to-wear size tag
If you’re knitting or sewing and looking for a ready-to-wear tag, a size tag from your local stationery store might do the trick. That should include ready-to-wear labels that conform to international sizing standards and incorporate a variety of background colors.
How to sew clothing tags?
You can sew the size tag with a sewing machine or by hand. The size tag can fit fabric on one or both of its shorter sides, depending on whether you want the tag to hang more freely.
You can buy several ready-to-wear labels, including baby-size labels, child-size labels, and adult-size labels. In the United States, infant and toddler clothing sizes range from 0-3 to 18-24 months and 3 to 18 months. For kids, card sizes range from 1T to 6T. And six to sixteen for adults.
