Women will be able to continue contributing to the economy through PakistanEdX without having to compromise their official and domestic duties. PakistanEdX is an important activity started as part of the HEC HEDP project supported by the World Bank. It aims to deliver Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) in a manner comparable to that of well-known international platforms such as Coursera and edX. The goal is to expand the reach of high-quality education at the national level, especially by focusing on remote and disadvantaged areas.
Poor youth will be able to take courses (MOOCs) taught by highly qualified instructors through PakistanEdX. MIT/Harvard’s edX, University of California, San Diego’s edX, and Wikimedia are just a few of the international learning platforms that are developed by the same organization. More than 55 million students around the world have benefited from this company’s technology. The HEC PERN project, which is expanding high-quality internet access to all affiliated colleges and universities, will be a complement to the platform. For provinces like Balochistan, inland Sindh, newly merged districts of KP and far from Punjab, these initiatives are especially important.
To ensure both accessibility and high quality, models of financial assurance, sustainability and quality have been widely discussed. Technical and financial procedures for carrying out this activity were discussed by representatives of the participating universities. The participants present in person at the meeting, VC LUMS, VC AIOU and VC Virtual University, all agreed to continue contributing to Pakistan EdX. Discussions ended with the development of the Letter of Interest for Course Development, the deadline for accepting credits for the online courses, and the minimum number of contact hours required.
