The former Texas state trooper passed away on Thursday, according to Updyke’s son Bear Updyke, who was named after legendary Alabama coach Paul “Bear” Bryant, according to al.com. He was 71.
Although the cause of death was not disclosed, court documents revealed that Louisiana resident Updyke had a number of medical conditions, including coronary disease and congestive heart failure.

Lee County District Attorney Brandon Hughes, who attempted to seek more restitution payments from Updyke, claimed he didn’t have independent confirmation of her husband’s death and that neither Updyke nor her spouse had promptly responded to messages.
