In a devastating incident on Tuesday morning, Melissa “Missy” Deroba lost her life in a multi-vehicle accident on Rt. 283 near Roundtop Rd. Missy, an alumna of Millersville University, had dedicated 25 years of her life as a coach at the Gymnastics Center of Hershey and was known for her passion for camping at PA campgrounds.
The accident, which occurred around 11:02 a.m., involved two tractor-trailers and a passenger car, causing a fire on the roadway. Missy was driving a gray 2005 Ford Escape, which was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer and subsequently crashed into another tractor-trailer. Tragically, she was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver of the initial tractor-trailer was taken to Hershey Medical Center for treatment.
As authorities investigate the incident as a possible homicide caused by a motor vehicle, PSP Harrisburg is urging anyone with footage or information about the collision to come forward.
In the wake of this heartbreaking loss, a GoFundMe campaign has been initiated by Mikalah Copenhaver to assist Missy’s family with the funeral expenses. Missy is survived by her long-term boyfriend, John, and her daughter, Claire, along with her cherished fur babies, Buddy, Ginger, and Morgan. The family, unprepared for the unexpected funeral costs, has set a fundraising goal of $20,000. Any surplus funds will be dedicated to funding Claire’s higher education, reflecting Missy’s commitment to her family’s future.
Details about Melissa Deroba’s obituary and funeral plans will be shared by her family, allowing the community to come together, pay their respects, and support the family during this difficult time.
